A Ride For 3 Reasons – Bob Lee’s Mission

Bob Lee of Ride For 3 ReasonsWhat do you call a man, who at the age of 65 decides to ride his bicycle 6,500 miles across the United States to raise money for charity?  And then, this man donates every penny he raises (and I mean every penny – not one cent goes to expenses) to three causes very near and dear to him.

You call him Bob Lee.

Bob Lee is the man behind A Ride For Three Reasons, a cross-country odyssey to raise funding for the fight against Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS) and cancer, and to support hospice care.

Quicken Loans is proud to be a sponsor of Bob’s ride across the country and we are privileged to have been given the opportunity to donate a new web site and blog for Bob’s ride.

Here’s a little background on Bob from his web site:

“Bob Lee is a cancer survivor and an advocate for physical fitness and charitable giving. He is grateful for success and satisfaction  in his personal and professional life and is now devoted to the spirit of health and dedicated to ‘giving back.’"

Bob Lee With Equipment Donated By Quicken LoansActually, this is Bob’s second voyage across the nation to raise money for charity.  His first ride, in 2001, went coast-to-coast and raised $86,000.  Bob was inspired to do something after reading the book, Tuesdays With Morrie, Mitch Albom’s best seller about his former professor Morrie Schwartz’s battle with ALS.  One thing led to another and soon Bob was on the road raising money for ALS research.  He also donated a portion of the money raised on his first ride to hospice care, which had greatly helped his mother.

For the upcoming ride Bob has added the American Cancer Society as a recipient of his charity.  This is partially due to his own battle with cancer a few years back.  Bob wants to offer help to others so they can be as fortunate as he in their fight against cancer.

You can view the entire path of his ride on his site and you’ll be able to follow along with him as he progresses across the country. Bob will be blogging from the road, chronicling the people he meets and the places he visits during his travels.  As he passes through the farms, villages, towns and cities along his route, he'll capture it all with pictures and words, allowing us to experience the ride along with him.

This is truly an amazing undertaking by an amazing person.  It is a test of fortitude. A test of strength.  A test of courage.  But most of all, it is a gift of love.

So as he makes final preparations for this amazing ride, the DIFF team wishes Bob a safe and successful Ride For 3 Reasons.

Godspeed!
