“Plan out your future, but do it in pencil!” – Bon Jovi
Over July 4th I had time to relax on the lake, soak up the sunshine, and live carefree for a few days. Somehow, amid all the relaxation I found myself stressing about the changes to come in the all-too-near future, after graduation.
I seriously had a panic attack when I realized, "OMG! Real life! That means no more waking up at noon, no more jetting out of the state on a spontaneous whim, and no more crazy, carefree college life." The future, the unknown, the real world and all that goes with it is staring me in the face… scary!

Monday morning rolled around, and, once again, inspiration was
delivered to me during our team meeting. This time through a Bon Jovi
quote. (I love Bon Jovi!) "Plan out your future, but do it in
pencil." Life can change in an instant. You have to go with the flow, live and learn, and grasp the opportunity of change in order to grow.
Here’s what I learned from that team meeting, and Bon Jovi’s wisdom:
One of the best things you can do in all areas of your life is to create smart goals for yourself.
A S.M.A.R.T. goal is "Specific, Measurable, Ardently desired, Relevant and Timely."
A goal is just a dream with a deadline.
You have to think, "Best case scenario." Dream big!
What you focus on you will find, and you will ultimately become.
The fear of failure and fear of being told "no" kills dreams.
Fear is defined as, "false evidence appearing real." Often, that which you fear never becomes reality. Bust through the fear of failure.
Aim as high as your imagination will take you. If you never try how will ever know?
Dream big… It’s your life.
