I don’t watch a lot of TV but I have caught a few shows the last few days and have noticed this particular commercial. (Yes, I do make it a habit of watching commercials.) It took a few viewings before I realized it was for American Express’s Members Project, but I remembered I had seen it before because the very end showed Jim Henson hanging around The Muppets. I don’t know why it took me so many times to see it before I saw this commercial screaming about The DIFF.
So of course today I go to the site as I prepare to write this blog entry and realize that I’ve already been to the site. As a matter of fact, I’ve actually nominated a project to win. This time though I wasn’t there to nominate any projects, but to find out more about Members Project and share it with you.
From the looks of it this is the second year that American Express has done the Members Project. The tagline is, “Make a positive impact in the world. Your ideas. Your decision. Our money.” So here’s a really quick synopsis from the ‘about’ page:
· Members share an idea for project that they think will make a difference,
· People can vote for their favorites,
· American Express awards $2.5 million to the winning projects (5 in total share it)!
It’s a really interesting idea. Now the commercial for it showed all these famous people but the Members Project winners from 2007 seem to be just your average Joes who want to make a difference.
I suggest that you go ahead and take a look. Maybe take some time to campaign for an idea that you believe in, or if you are an American Express card member then in 5 days you can take some time to vote.
Way to go American Express – for helping others make a difference.
