Believe it or not, I just found out Paul Newman died this past weekend from complications of cancer. Sad.
He was one of my favorite actors of all time.
He was a stud. Super cool.
His performance in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof inspired me to want to be an actor. Unfortunately I was neither as good looking, big, or talented as Paul Newman – so I act for free now.
CNN has an interesting page where Ireporters share memories of Paul Newman. It’s got some cool quotes. I recommend checking it out.
If I had to pick a favorite Paul Newman movie, I’d probably go with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. But The Hustler and Cool Hand Luke are right up there – after all, everyone in the entire world says "what we’ve got here is a failure to communicate" at least a few times a year.
Newman also was a racing fan, driver, and owner. He was actually quite successful as both a driver and an owner and once said that motorsports were "the first thing that I ever found I had any grace in."
He also was an active philanthropist, and his Newman’s Own brand donated millions to various causes. Cora just wrote about her love for Newman’s Own Spaghetti Sauce on the DIFF.
A former chain smoker, Newman died of lung cancer at age 83.
Like I said, Paul Newman was cool. A great actor who won so many awards I don’t care to mention them all (of course one of them was an Academy Award).
I’ll always admire his work as an actor and a philanthropist. He did what he did well. He was among the best.
He’ll be remembered forever. That’s a pretty nice tribute to a nice man.
