Tic Tac Chill – Reviewed by the good folks from Quicken Loans

Tic Tac Chills are good says the Quicken Loans blogHere’s how it went down. My friend Charlie (I have 3 black belts in kendo and you don’t) Kondek from MS&L asked me if I would try some samples of new Tic Tac Chill mints from Ferrero, makers of the Tic Tac.

"Sure, I’d like a Tic Tac, man." I said.

Tic Tac Chills are brand new sugar free versions of the ever so famous little minty candy thingys that we all love so much.

"Can I have a Tic Tac, baby?" is a expression heard across the English-speaking world every day.  You’ll notice that I didn’t call Charlie baby when he offered to send me some free samples. I just want to be clear on that.

Here’s some info from Ferrero about Tic Tac Chills:

Ferrero U.S.A. has launched new Tic Tac® CHILL, the latest addition to its iconic line of Tic Tac® mints.  Tic Tac® CHILL mints are larger and have a taste that strikes a balance between cool refreshment and clean flavor.  And Tic Tac® CHILL mints are the first in the Tic Tac® product portfolio to be entirely sugar free, sweetened with xylitol.

Tic Tac® CHILL comes in two flavors: cool and breezy Paradise Mint, and Exotic Cherry, with a touch of tangy, cherry sweetness.  The new, larger-sized Tic Tac® CHILL mints are available in a sleek dual-use pack that combines the familiar Tic Tac® see-through package and flip top for convenient, on-the-go use with a new, wide slide-top opening for even easier one-handed access.

Now that I’ve gotten the official stuff out of the way here are the reviews. I actually interrupted a web marketing meeting to have everyone try them and let me know what they thought. Below are a couple of random outbursts from the taste test:

"How the [bleep] do you open the package?!" (my guess is that’s why they have directions on the website)

"I love the cherry."

"Oh, ugh. The cherry tastes like bathroom potpourri."

"What are you talking about? The cherry is good."

"The mint tastes like I think of when I think Tic Tac."

"Why do they call it Paradise Mint? I think tropical when I hear paradise."

"I like the cherry too."

"I prefer the mint better."

"I didn’t have any."

"Thanks for hijacking the meeting, Clayton. I guess we’re done here. Thanks everyone."

Me, personally, I like both. I really like the cherry and I’ll say it with pride. Darn it, the cherry tastes good. I’m sucking on one right now. Mmm. Tic Tac Chills get a thumbs up from Clay C.

  1. These taste okay, but I hear they are pretty expensive for what you get. For a rather disgusting melding of flavors, put a mint and a cherry in your mouth at the same time. I call this flavor, “Bottom of the Garbage Can Sensation Breeze.”

  2. How come I didn’t get to experience the chillation that these new Tic Tacs brought?
    Darnit.

  3. You weren’t in the meeting that I interrupted to do the taste test. Stop by my desk and you can try some. Then you can put your review in a comment!

  4. Mmmmmm.
I agree that the mint one tastes just like a mint Tic Tac. And if you’re looking for a breath mint – it will definitely work.
As for the cherry…it did have a taste that made it kind of exotic. I couldn’t quite place it, but it was yummy. Nice little after lunch treat.

  5. So after reading the hype, I had to check them out for myself. I have to admit I was not fond of the cherry ones. They didn’t seem cherry at all too me. It was a weirdo taste — nothing I would describe as cherry.
The mint one was good enough, but didn’t knock my socks off. It tasted a lot like the Lions Club mints you get for 50 cents at the Big Boy checkout register.
The chill sensation was there, but I guess I did not understand the point. It felt marginally cool in my mouth, not particularly refreshing, but not exceptionally annoying either.
I guess what I am saying is given a choice, I will stick with my orange and/or citrus regular Tic Tacs over these.

  6. I love the song for the new chill tictac. Does anyone know who plays the music in the commercial?
