Wow. Talk about "what were they thinking?"
I like to mention great examples of creative social media and word of mouth marketing here (Häagen-Dazs Honey Bees for example), so I guess it’s only fair I point out a terrible example that makes me say "huh?"
Pizza Hut recently created the below video and evidently actually thought it was a good idea. They sent out two guys with video cameras to bother small mom and pop pizza shops. Umm, yeah, nice way to make your brand look good guys.
About 99% of the comments I’ve seen on this are negative and it appears that Pizza Hut spent several grand to make themselves look like sophomoric bullies. I don’t get it.
They could have given that money to a charity and gotten way better ROI
on their dollars spent. People are claiming it’s a "viral success" with 297k+ views, but if I was them, I probably wouldn’t want this thing to get much bigger. I don’t know. I just don’t see how this is good for Pizza Hut in any way.
Anyway, maybe I’m looking at this all wrong. Please check it out if you haven’t already and leave your opinion. I don’t get it, but maybe I’m not even the intended audience.
Is this good marketing? Is this good for Pizza Hut? Is this good for anything? Please let me know.
