George Steinbrenner – the “Boss of America’s Team” – Gone But Never Forgotten

History's most famous baseball team owner, of the most famous team in history, has moved on to the ball game in the sky.

George Steinbrenner has hung up his kleats (well, not sure if he every played) and he'll be missed. Love him or hate him, he was good at what he did and he built an empire. The Yankees are the most successful and recognized team in baseball (if not sports) history and he's a big part of the reason why.

From the Detroit News:

For more than 30 years, Steinbrenner lived up to his billing as "the Boss," a nickname he earned and clearly enjoyed as he ruled with an iron fist. While he lived in Tampa he was a staple on the front pages of New York newspapers.

"He was an incredible and charitable man," his family said in a statement. "He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports. He took a great but struggling franchise and turned it into a champion again."
