Last winter my husband and I went on our honeymoon to Mexico. We aren’t high brow but we do like nice things so it took us a while to decide which resort we wanted to stay at. After reading hundreds of reviews on TripAdvisor (which is a great travel research tool), and knowing that the resort was rated #1 in the Riviera Maya we decided to stay for 12 days at Secrets Capri.
If you aren’t familiar with the Secrets chain they are known as all-inclusive luxury resorts with great service and food. They are adult only premises and naturally cater to couples and honeymooners.
Anyway, to say the least we were very excited to get away for a few weeks. Of course we had some big expectations of the resort and upon landing, Secrets did not disappoint. They picked us up from the airport, shuttled us to the resort, greeted us with cool towels, champagne and warm cookies all before checking in. Not bad!! The rest of our trip was more of the same type of thing – amazing dinners on the seafood restaurant’s balcony over looking the ocean, poolside service with any type of refreshment you could imagine (a frosty glass of Corona in Mexico just tastes better), 24 hr room service, a 5 star spa, I could go on an on. It was all great and the resort definitely lived up to our expectations. Worth every penny.
The last night of our honeymoon we went to the manager’s cocktail reception before dinner. We were enjoying the hors d’oeuvres and conversations with new friends when Eric the manager (who we had heard so many great things about) approached us. He called us by our names (we had never formally met him) and asked us how our stay was. We of course told him everything was fantastic and we couldn’t have had a better time. We casually mentioned how we especially loved the warm cookies we were given at check in…..
Yes, I know you are probably thinking what a random comment but you have to understand I’m a dessert lover and they made an impression. So much so that throughout the two weeks we searched everywhere to find them – dessert menus, room service and the buffet dining room but had no luck.
Anyway, the next morning when we checked out the receptionist came up to us and handed us a big white box and said it was just a little treat to get us through our trip back. When we opened the box it was filled with fresh baked warm cookies!
Though our trip was amazing that “little treat” is the reason I’m still talking about Secrets Capri nine months later. Take a trip there – you won’t be disappointed!
