Google Maps US Street View Special Collection – Vote Michigan!

Googles Maps' US Street View Special Collection - Vote Michigan!Got an email from my Twitter friend Charlie Wollborg of Curve Detroit last week.

Now, Charlie knows the interwebz and Charlie knows (probably all of) Metro Detroit, so I take his emails very seriously.

Because he's a serious dude.

Not really. He's actually a really funny guy who loves bacon.

But he is a total wealth of knowledge.

Charlie was writing me about this neat competition going on for certain places to be included in a special collection of Street View for Google Maps.

From the GOOG:

Thank you to everyone who sent suggestions for locations they'd like to
see photographed by the Street View trike. We were inundated by more
than 25,000 great ideas!

Now it's your turn to cast the final vote to tell us which locations you'd most like to see on Google Maps.

Explore the finalists listed below and shown on the map, then
cast your votes within each category. You can vote as many times as you
like until the deadline at 11:59pm PST, Monday, November 30th.

We'll work closely with the relevant organizations to secure permission to collect images of privately-owned locations.

Michigan is lucky enough to be in 2 categories: Michigan State in University Campuses and the Detroit Zoo in Theme Parks & Zoos. All it takes is a click to help the Great Lakes state win. Go here to vote. Let's make Michigan The DIFF!

And I totally agree with this last sentiment from Charlie: "Twitter, Facebook, email, blog or carrier
pigeon, help spread the word. This is a great positive PR opportunity for our
state."
Go vote & share!

How Safe Are Football Helmets? Xenith is Lowering the Risks of Injury With Their Newest Helmet Design.

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

The Today Show discusses a new helmet designed to reduce football related head injuries.

Concussions go drastically unreported at High Schools because many believe you have to be unconscious to have one. There are a number of symptoms that can be a sign of a concussion. According to the Journal of Athletic Training approximately 55,000 concussions are experienced in High School football each year.

Xenith has created a new specialized helmet that is being used to minimize these risks of concussion. These helmets are equipped with compression shock absorbers that cushion much like an airbag in a car. Watch the video to learn more about the new helmet design and what schools are doing to get the helmets for their teams.

Twitter as a customer service tool – yeah it works for us and many others according to USA Today

Quicken Loans Named by USA Today as One of the Top Companies Using Twitter for Customer ServiceQuicken Loans was featured yesterday in an article in USA Today about companies using Twitter as a customer service tool.

While we are VERY happy to be included in a national article about Twitter and although this might be news to some, it's not news to us. We've known for over a year now that Twitter is an AMAZING way to connect to our clients.

We love Twitter.

We've started loans with Twitter. Better yet, we've SAVED loans with Twitter, where something was going badly wrong and we were able to find out about it and correct it before it was too late. This is hard ROI that we can attribute to Twitter. We know it works and, like I said, we love Twitter.

Kellyatquickenloans is our official Twitter leader and she's in there darn near 24/7 – always available to help anyone with a question or perceived problem. Twitter is a very easy way for our clients to reach us and we actually like the fact that it's public. We want to show the world that we are real people who can help people. We don't like hiding behind things. We don't mind being out in the open. We know we can't help everyone, but we sure can try.

So if anyone every has a question for us, about us, or about anything to do with mortgages or personal finance, ask Kelly. She's there to help.

On Twitter.

Quicken Loans Walk for ALS Video

Remember when we wrote about Tweet for ALS?

On Saturday, October 3rd the ALS (Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Association held its annual Walk to Defeat ALS on Belle Isle and more than 500 people showed up to raise awareness for the disease. Bill Emerson, CEO for Quicken Loans challenged Quicken and its family of companies to raise over $75,000 to defeat ALS. Through individual team member contributions, internal auctions for unique prizes, creative team competitions such as raffles, themed lunches, the launch of a one-day online national Tweet-for-ALS campaign on the social media site Twitter and even valet parking for a day, the goal was surpassed and more than $120,000 was raised.

Now THAT is the DIFF. Good job, Quicken Loans!

Time Inc.’s Assignment Detroit Video: What Detroit start-ups need

If you haven't heard about the special Time Inc./CNN Money project about Detroit, it's definitely "time" you check it out. Their mission?

"It's a city in crisis – but with potential for a big comeback. Despite an ailing auto industry and the highest jobless rate in the nation, Detroiters are determined to make their hometown thrive once again. For the next year, CNNMoney will focus on that challenge."

One of their latest articles includes a feature of Quicken Loans Chairman Dan Gilbert and his vision for our company and our move to Detroit. It's called "Making Detroit a tech hub – One mogul's vision".

But in the video above, you'll see a glimpse of what needs to happen in Detroit to make it a place to attract even more businesses. Listen in as Randall Charlton (Executive Director, TechTown), Chanell Scott (QL friend and Co-Founder of Guffly) and Matt Cullen (President of the QL mothership aka Rockbridge Growth Equity) discuss the kinds of things entrepreneurs are looking to find when considering the Motor City.

What else do you think Detroit needs to attract successful businesses?
